Mexico Tourist Visa

A Mexican tourist visa is a short term visa with a validity of 180 days. This type is issued to those who want to stay in Mexico for business, tourism, or any other purpose for a short time. However, holders cannot work or engage in any activity that will earn them a wage during their stay.

That means that to get this visa, you must show proof that you have the funds to survive during your time in the country.

Mexico Temporary Resident Visa

Also called a temporary residency permit, this one is issued to visitors who wish to stay back for more than 6 months but below four years. If you don’t qualify for a tourist visa because you wish to stay for more than 180 days, you can apply for this one.

A temporary resident visa is divided into the following

·         Mexico Family visa

·         Mexico work visa

·         Mexico student visa

Mexico Permanent Resident Visa

A permanent resident visa is like a temporary resident visa but with longer validity. This one is issued to foreign retirees who wish to settle in Mexico or to applicants who have families in Mexico who have lived in the country for at least four years or longer.

If the applicant has stayed in Mexico for a period of four years, they can also apply for a permanent visa too.

How To Apply For A Visa?

To apply for a visa, you need to do the following

·         Book a visa appointment with the Mexican consulate in your country

·         Fill out the Mexico visa application form

·         Attach the required documents

·         Submit the form and documents and pay the application fee

·         Visit the consulate on the day of your interview

It is important to note that the application process is not cast in stone but differs from one consulate to another. Mexican consulates in different countries have their unique requirements, interview days, and application fees, so do your findings before you apply.

Furthermore, the type of visa you apply for will depend on the procedure so bear this in mind. The cost of the application visa fee is $36, but this fee is subject to change and will be charged in your local currency. The payment method will also differ as you may be asked to pay in cash or via bank transfers or cheques.

So what is the processing time for a Mexican visa?

The processing time will depend on the procedure of the consulate in question and the type of visa you apply for. However, the standard is two working days and up to 4 weeks from the day you apply for the visa.

The consulate will inform you of the timeline so you know how long it will take. This is why it is advisable to schedule an interview and enquire from the official about the duration.

The Mexico processing time will depend on two things; the type of visa you apply for and the procedure of the Mexican consulate. We recommend you apply for the valid visa at least 4 weeks before you plan to travel to make up for any potential delays.
