Many people often see the Mexico Electronic Authorization Online SAE on the internet but don’t know what it means. This is essentially

·         A travel document issued to nationals of selected countries

·         It allows them to enter and stay in Mexico for a period of time.

This article contains all your need to know about the Mexico Electronic Authorization system, popularly called SAE, who can apply and other important information. Please continue reading to learn more.

Mexico Electronic Authorization Online (SAE)

The SAE is a travel document allowing travelers from certain countries to enter Mexico by air. This means it is not issued to everybody, only a selected few. If you are from an SAE eligible country, you can enter Mexico by air. Furthermore, you don’t need a Mexican visa or visit the Mexican embassy to do so, unlike nationals of non-SAE countries.

Citizens allowed to enter Mexico with SAE authorization include

·         Russia

·         Brazil

·         Turkey

·         Ukraine

Besides being a citizen of any of these countries, you need to provide some information about yourself and why you want to visit Mexico. You also need to let the authorities know where you plan to stay and for how long. Another standard practice of the Mexican consulate in these countries is to demand a confirmed flight ticket attached to the Mexican electronic authorization system application.

Only citizens of these countries entering Mexico by air may apply for SAE. Those entering by road or sea may not. Due to the global pandemic and its effect on global travels, many visitors coming to Mexico need to show a negative Covid test but NOT citizens of SAE countries. Since there is a possibility that this may change, we recommend you do a detailed check for the Covid requirements for your country.

Documents

The documents required for an SAE application are few. You need a valid passport with at least a 6 months validity. This document will serve as proof that you are a citizen of an SAE eligible country. There are also income requirements you must meet to obtain SAE.

When visiting Mexico, make sure you bring the Mexico ETA document along with you when you travel to Mexico and present it before immigration officers at the point of entry.

Note: Citizens of eligible countries who hold a valid visa or residency permit from Japan, the US, UK, Canada, or any Schengen country don’t need a visa to enter Mexico.

Ineligible Applicants

Most foreign nationals besides Ukraine, Brazil, Russia and Turkey do not qualify for SAE. If you are not from any of these countries, you need to apply for entry using a different route.

Applicants from eligible countries who plan to enter by sea or land must apply for a tourist or temporary resident visa, not SAE. Only applications from flight travelers are accepted.

If you wish to stay in Mexico for more than 180 days, you don’t qualify for SAE. This document only lasts for 180 days from the date it is issued, so overstaying will be a violation. This is why you should apply for a temporary visa instead, which can be renewed every year.

Mexico Electronic Authorization Online SAE & Approval Time

SAE is a single entry document and not a multiple entry document. This means that you can only use it once, so if you leave Mexico before it expires, you need to reapply for a new one. Furthermore, it can not be used by more than one person. In the case of a minor, the legal guardian or parents may apply on their behalf.

The application approval time may take 30 minutes to 24 hours, depending on the backlog of applications the consulate is handling at the time. So to avoid delays, the smart move will be to apply for SAE at least several days before your intended arrival date.

The electronic approval document remains active from the day it is issued and 30 days afterwards. This means that you can visit Mexico during this time. But it becomes void 31 days or more after the issue date, so kindly take note.

Mexico Electronic Authorization Online is a travel document issued to only citizens of Ukraine, Russia, Brazil and Turkey, and it is active for 30 days after issue. Furthermore, only visitors who wish to enter the country by air may apply. With SAE, you can visit and stay in Mexico for 180 days. If your application is denied for one or more reasons, you have the option to apply for temporary residency.
