Colombia is one of the most intriguing tourist destinations in South America. With a Colombian tourist visa, you can visit most major cities and popular sites like the Gold Museum, and Rosario Islands, and enjoy leisure pursuits like bird and whale watching or the renowned Medillin Marathon.

Foreign nationals who want to enter Colombia for leisure must register for a tourist or visitor visa. Most foreigners receive a free visa upon arrival, which can be extended on occasion. Foreign nationals cannot work, own a business, or settle permanently in Colombia while on a tourist visa. The visiting or tourist visa is also available to foreign nationals traveling to Colombia to learn Spanish.

For the majority of foreign tourists, the Colombia tourist or visiting visa is not a formal visa. The majority of foreign visitors to Colombia receive a tourist visa stamp on their valid passports, allowing them to stay in Colombia for 90 days. This short-term stay in Colombia may be prolonged for an additional 90 days. In a calendar year, a foreign visitor stays in Colombia for a maximum of 180 days.

A visitor from outside Colombia can prolong this stay by departing the country temporarily or by renewing their tourist visa at a nearby Migración Colombia office. If you remain in Colombia for longer than 180 days, you must pay a fine before departing the country.

The visitor (V) visa for Colombia is currently the official name for the tourist or visitor visa. All visitors who are planning to visit Colombia for any reason have to obtain a Check-MIG form. Click here to get one.

Processing Time

A Colombian visa can be obtained in as little as 4 to 5 business days after processing. However, this period will vary because the visa process is influenced by various factors. The term can be up to 30 calendar days if you take into account the time needed for the actual visa from the date of online registration, which will comprise the time needed for the interview and the approval of the papers.
